Other Ministries

Nursery (Babies to age 3)

The Lord has blessed Providence with many children. We desire to show love to our brothers and sisters and their children by ministering to those children in nursery. It takes a large number of people to keep this ministry going. We encourage everyone from age 15 and up to come and care for the children. For more details, contact Mary Dean.

Grounds Keeping

Many people don’t think about the ones who care for the church’s buildings and grounds. Our members do indeed care for the upkeep of the church and its related facilities and property as the Lord has given it to us. This is a big job which includes cutting the grass and hedges. Our members paint, fix leaks, build additions, do renovations, and so much more. If you are interested in being involved in this ministry, contact Jim Johnson.

Prison Ministry

(Matthew 25:36c-40) “‘…I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”

The Lord has given us an open and effectual door to minister to many in prison, both in terms of preaching to large groups and in terms of one-on-one discipleship. Our prayer is that the Lord will save many and encourage, disciple, and admonish the remnant who are in prison. Not only do we visit to Broad River Correctional Institute for a time of worship and teaching, but we also view prayer and letter writing as a vital part of the ministry. We furnish bibles and interactive studies as well. If you would like to become involved in this ministry, please contact Tim Smerdon @ timsmerdon@providenceministries.us.

Christmas Cancer and Bible Ministry

(Matthew 25:37-40) “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”

Many people are hurting physically and spiritually. This ministry targets those families that have been touched by cancer. The costs associated with treating cancer are often devastating. In an effort to minister to these families at Christmas time, we provide small gifts and food. And, as with the prison ministry, we distribute bibles here as well. We do work in conjunction with the American Cancer Society to meet the needs of those that are hurting, to demonstrate the love of Christ, and to minister to the whole person.

Small Groups

Women’s Ministry

(Titus 2:3-5) - “The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things-- that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.”

At Providence, our women enjoy opportunities almost every quarter to enter into a women’s bible study. Such a study might be a “Precept Study” from a particular bible book, a study through any number of practical books related to biblical counseling or Christian living, or a study put together by one of our women counselors. We have done studies, among others, that include “The Excellent Wife” by Martha Peace. Our ladies also meet regularly to fellowship and encourage one another on “Titus 2 Tuesdays.” We also offer women’s conferences, the last two of which were in Hendersonville, N.C. Each conference has been a wonderful time of bible study, prayer and fellowship. If you would like more information about our women’s ministry, please contact Jayne Johnson @ jaynejohnson@providenceministries.us

Welcome Center

When visitors come to Providence, not only do we want them to see the love that we have for one another but that they feel welcome among us. As you visit with us, hopefully, you will be greeted with a kind word, a smile, and a gift. Several church members are busy baking on Saturdays so that you, our welcome guest, can have a loaf of bread on Sundays. We want to answer you questions, so stop by the welcome table this Sunday for conversation and a brochure. If you would like more details or would like to become involved in this ministry, please contact Tina Smerdon.
